Chapter 7: Moving On

Rob’s guestroom was completely different from Joe’s. This guestroom had two double beds and a bathroom attached to it. The girls liked this one better because they felt more comfortable.

“Let me know if you need anything,” Rob said after showing the girls their room.

“Thanks,” they said in unison and then Rob left.

The first thong that Crystal did was collapse on one of the beds. She chose the bed that was closest to the door and Shelli took the other one.

“Are you going to be okay?” Shelli asked as she unpacked her things.

“Honestly, I’m fine. I’m more worried about Joe than myself. He looked so hurt when we were leaving,” Crystal said as she stared at the ceiling.

“I absolutely hate it when you do that,” Shelli said and threw one of her shirts down on her bag in disgust.

“What exactly do I do?” Crystal asked as she turned to look at Shelli.

“You make excuses for him. You do it all the time and it’s like Joe can do no wrong. It annoys me beyond reason.”

“I’m not making an excuse. I’m just worried about him, that’s all.”

“Is he worried about you?”

“Well…I…I don’t know.”

“Of course not because he never tells you how he feels. It’s time to start worrying about someone who really cares about you.”

Crystal was going to argue with Shelli some more, but her cell phone rang. It made Crystal smile because she thought that it was Joe.

“This will show her,” Crystal thought as she sat up and retrieved the phone.

Her smile faded when she checked the Caller ID. She was wrong, it wasn’t Joe. It was Brad.

“Hey…Brad,” Crystal said after answering her phone. Shelli gave Crystal a knowing look as Crystal continued talking to Brad.

“I just called to see how you were doing. Is Rob treating you alright?” Brad questioned.

“I’m good and Rob’s been nothing but nice.”

“Good…I feel really bad about what happened to you.”

“Seriously, it’s not a big deal.”

“It is and I want to make things right. How about I take you out tomorrow night?”

“Okay, I’ll pick you up around eight.”

They said their good-byes and Crystal hung up the phone. Shelli had been watching Crystal during the entire conversation. She was wondering why Brad had called.

“So?” Shelli asked, waiting for Crystal to fill in the blanks.

“Apparently, Brad likes me or something because he asked me out,” Crystal replied.

“Brad 2, Joe 0.”

Crystal rolled her eyes at Shelli and laid down on the bed. Her cell phone was still in her hand and she looked at it curiously. Crystal knew that it was wrong for hoping, but she still hoped that Joe would be the next person to call her.

“I should call her,” Joe said.

“After what happened yesterday, I’ll be surprised if she ever talks to you again,” Mike replied.

“Me too. If I was her, I wouldn’t talk to you,” Brad added.

“I’m sure you would think that way since you have a date with her tonight,” Joe sassed, extremely pissed off about that.

“If you have a problem with it, the why didn’t you ask her out?” Brad asked.

“Chill guys. We’re supposed to be working this out,” Dave interjected.

The guys were at Joe’s house, discussing Joe’s problems. Joe was open and honest with them about everything except the real reason he was upset with Crystal. He blamed it all on that fact that she could have gotten hurt, but it was really about his jealousy of Brad. The guys didn’t like that Joe had hit Crystal and they made sure that he knew that. They decided to stick by Joe’s side and help him work through this though.

“Brad, I’ve got a question for you,” Joe said suddenly.

“Joe, please don’t start,” Chester advised.

“No, I want to hear this,” Brad said.

“Aren’t you still with Jen?” Joe asked with a smirk on his face.

“Yeah, I’d like to know how that’s going myself,” Mike said, facing Brad.

Jen was Brad’s wife. The two had been married for three years, but their relationship was less than perfect. They argued constantly and in the end, it tore them apart. However, Jen and Brad had a pattern. They’d break-up, separate for a while, and then make-up. At the moment, they were separated and Jen was out of town, but at any moment, Jen could reappear.

Jen was also Mike’s cousin and Mike didn’t mind their strange relationship. He just didn’t like the fact that Brad might try to cheat on his cousin. Mike didn’t want his cousin getting hurt.

“For all of your information, Jen and I are legally separated. I expect that Jen will be surviving me papers any day now,” Brad explained.

“Are you sure about that?” Rob asked, knowing how Jen and Brad work.

“Yes, Jen and I are done,” Brad said.

“I hope you told Jen that because I don’t want her crying to me about you,” Mike stated.

Brad was getting annoyed with where this conversation was going. He knew that Joe did this purposely. Brad figured that Joe just wanted him to squirm and punk out, but Brad was determined not to let that happen. He liked Crystal and nothing was going to stop him from having her.

“Does Crystal even know about Jen?” Chester asked.

“Ugh, not exactly,” Brad admitted.

“I guess if you remove the ring, it’s like you were never married,” Joe snapped.

“Whatever. I have a date to get ready for,” Brad spat and walked out the door.

“She’s not going to fall for him,” Joe said after watching Brad leave.

“But what if she does?” Dave asked.

“Yeah and what does Crystal really mean to you? You wouldn’t be making such a big deal about this if she was only your friend,” Mike reasoned.

Joe didn’t know how to reply to that. He was still trying to figure out his feelings himself.

Brad picked Crystal up at exactly 8 pm and that left Shelli with the house all to herself. She decided to browse around because she had nothing better to do with her time. She was so busy snooping that she didn’t hear the front door unlock.

Rob had come home after talking with Joe some more and he thought the house was empty. He knew that Crystal was going out with Brad and he assumed that Shelli wouldn’t stay in his house by herself.

“It would be so awkward if she was here,” Rob thought.

He was on his way upstairs to go to his room, when he heard a creaking sound. He wasn’t alarmed because he figured that it was just Shelli. Rob was just curious about what Shelli was doing upstairs. So he followed the sound of her feet trailing on the floor.

Shelli was in Rob’s room just taking in the ambiance. She saw a picture of him on his dresser and picked it up. She was smiling at how utterly handsome Rob was as she stared at the picture. Meanwhile, Rob was watching while leaning in the door way. He liked what he saw and wanted to make his presence known.

“Find anything you like?” Rob asked, startling Shelli, which caused her to drop and break the picture.

“I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have looked through your things like that,” Shelli apologized as she picked up shards of glass.

“It’s okay. The frame was from Wal-Mart, I could always go buy another one,” Rob said after grabbing his wastebasket and bringing it by Shelli. So that she could place the shards in there.

“I keep goofing up around you. You must think that I’m such a ditz,” Shelli said while dropping the glass into the basket.

“Actually, I wouldn’t think that about you,” Rob replied and smiled while helping Shelli.

Shelli smiled back at Rob. She couldn’t believe how wonderful he was and how perfect he smiled. She was so thrown off by him that she gripped a shard too tightly and cut herself.

“Ow!” Shelli exclaimed as held her injured finger with her other hand.

“Here, let me help you with that,” Rob said as he gently took her hand and led her into his bathroom.

Shelli melted when he touched her. She thought that she might faint, but she resisted that urge. Rob was more concerned about her cut than anything else. Usually he wouldn’t have been so bold, but Shelli needed his help. He ran her finger under cold water to stop the bleeding and then dried it. After that he disinfected her finger with peroxide and Neosporin. When he was done, he placed a Band-Aid on her finger.

“There you go, all better,” Rob said as he finished.

“Thanks. I can’t believe how clumsy I am,” Shelli stated.

“It’s fine, it happens to everyone.”

“Yeah, but I keep doing crazy stuff. How could not think that I am ditz?”

“I told you, I would never think that about you.”

“What do you think of me then?”

“I think you’re nice and absolutely beautiful.”

With those words, they were caught in a moment. They stared into each other’s eyes, not saying anything. Shelli tilted her head ever so slightly and Rob leaned into her. Then they slowly kissed with great want and need.

Shelli didn’t want the kiss to end. She knew that stopping would be sensible, but she just didn’t want to be sensible.

“You’ll never get a chance like this again,” Shelli thought.

Rob’s hands started to roam up her shirt towards her bra. He managed to unlatch her bra while still kissing her. Then he slid her bra up and massaged her breasts. Shelli’s senses kicked in and she pulled away.

“Sorry, I…I didn’t…I mean…I…” Rob stammered.

“No, it’s not that. Umm, I just don’t want to come off easy, you know,” Shelli said.

Her conscience was messing with her and it caused her to stop. She wanted to keep Rob liking her and wanting her. She knew that all of that would disappear if they continued.

“I guess we could finish picking up that glass and watch a movie later. That is if you want to,” Rob said.

“That sounds like a good idea,” Shelli replied.

Shelli was relieved that she stopped herself and that Rob didn’t seem to mind. It took a load off of her shoulders.

“I had a great time, Brad,” Crystal said.

“I’m glad. I thought you could use a night out,” Brad said with a smile.

Brad had taken Crystal to The Cheesecake Factory and they decided to eat outside. Afterwards, he took her to the movies and they watched a comedy. The two of them never ran out of things to say to one another.

Brad was supposed to be bringing her back to Rob’s house, but he didn’t want to do that. He wanted to spend some more time with her. Especially, since she looked so good that night. She was wearing a button-down white blouse over her slimming, knee-length black dress, and black high heels.

“Hey, are you really ready to go back to Rob’s?” Brad asked.

“Why?” Crystal inquired.

“I figured that we could hang out some more at my place,” Brad said and glanced at Crystal to see her reaction.

“Sure, I’d like to see how the Big Bad Brad lives,” Crystal joked and then laughed.

Brad was delighted that she liked his idea. He was all smiles as he drove her to his house. When they got there, Crystal couldn’t help being stunned at the enormity of his house. She knew that the guys lived like celebrities, but she still was shocked whenever she saw each of their houses.

“Come on in,” Brad said as he opened the door for her.

“This is nice,” Crystal said as she walked in and Brad illuminated the house for her.

Brad went into the kitchen to get them refreshments and Crystal roamed around his living room. She was studying all of his pictures and happened to notice a picture of a woman. She was standing next to Brad and they looked happy with their big smiles. Crystal scanned all of the pictures in the room and noticed that this woman was in the majority of them.

The biggest shocker of all came when she saw the wedding picture. It seemed to be Brad’s wedding because the woman was wearing a wedding gown and he was standing in front of her. They were holding hands and staring intimately into each other’s eyes. Crystal knew that she should be upset about this, but she wasn’t.

“I guess I have a high tolerance of bullshit after Joe,” Crystal thought.

Brad came back with two cans of Cola and saw Crystal staring at the wedding photo. He set the Colas down on a nearby table and walked up to Crystal. Brad knew that Crystal would want the truth, but he didn’t want this thing with Crystal to end. He knew that Crystal wouldn’t stick around if she knew about Jen. So Brad decided to tell Crystal his rendition of the truth.

“That’s Jen,” Brad said from behind Crystal.

“Funny, you’ve never mentioned her before,” Crystal stated as she placed the picture down and turned to Brad.

“I don’t like remembering that part of my life.”

“Didn’t you think that I’d want to know that you’re married?”

“Actually, I’m divorced. Jen walked out on me a few months ago.”

“Oh…I’m sorry. That must have been so hard for you.”

Brad wanted Crystal to forget about Jen because he didn’t think that he could keep track of all the lies he might have to tell. So he kissed her to take her mind off of that whole conversation. It worked too because Jen was the last thing on Crystal’s mind.

Crystal started to feel rushed as things got hot and heavy. She wanted to take things slow, but it didn’t seem like that was going to happen. Mostly because when Brad kissed Crystal, she would respond without thinking. Brad had managed to led Crystal to the couch. She was laying down and he was on top of her. He had taken off her blouse and was now unzipping her dress.

“Brad, I think…” Crystal started, but Brad cut her off.

“Shh, don’t worry. I won’t hurt you,” Brad said and kissed her again.

Doubt filled Crystal’s mind, but she didn’t say anything. Something told her that Brad wouldn’t listen to her anyway. She wanted him to stop, but she didn’t want to seem like a tease. Finally, she spoke up.

“Brad, I really…” Crystal began, but was shushed again.

“Crystal, it’s okay. You have nothing to worry about,” Braid said, now practically pulling her dress down.

“I know, I just don’t want to do this,” Crystal said as she jerked away and Brad stopped.

“You like me, don’t you? Brad asked as he studied her expression.

“Yeah, but…”

“Then just let go. Believe me Crystal, you won’t be sorry.”

He wasn’t listening to her and Crystal knew he wasn’t. Brad successfully removed her dress from her body and was now staring at her body. She was only wearing a black bra and a black thong. Brad licked his lips; he wanted her so badly that he refused to let her deny him. Crystal shuddered as Brad stared at her body. She was uncomfortable and uneasy about all of this.

“You’re simply irresistible,” Brad murmured.

Crystal wanted to push Brad off of her and bolt out the door. Then a thought flashed into her mind…Joe. The first and last person that she slept with was Joe and although it was something to remember, she didn’t want that to be her only experience.

“Come on, let’s go to the bedroom,” Brad said as he slid off her and helped her up.

Crystal followed Brad up the stairs, but part of her hoped that the fates would intervene and Joe would call her at that very moment. Brad brought her to his bedroom and led her to his bed. He expected her to sit as he took off his clothes and she did.

When he was done, he walked up to Crystal and laid her down. He kissed her as he continued undressing her. Crystal was amazed at herself because she wasn’t going to stop Brad anymore. Even though she didn’t want to go any further, she refused to keep waiting for Joe, she felt that it was time to let go.

Brad kissed her so intensely and passionately. He was demanding a lot from Crystal and she kept giving and giving…

Crystal woke up the next morning completely aware of the events from the night before. She turned on her side and noticed that the bed was empty. She started to feel just as she felt after having sex with Joe. Crystal wrapped a sheet around herself and decided to go retrieve her clothes from downstairs.

“Why do I keep doing this to myself?” Crystal asked herself.

As she was walking down the stairs, the sheet slid down a little. Crystal readjusted the sheet and then looked up. She saw familiar faces staring at her; Cali, Chester, Dave, and Mike. Crystal wanted to run back up the stairs, but she was too stunned to move.

“Good…morning?” Crystal said, unsure of what she was saying.

“Indeed,” Cali replied as she sipped on her coffee.

“So you must have had some night,” Dave joked and started to chuckle a bit, but Mike elbowed him in his side.

“Brad!” Crystal called nervously.

She knew that she had to be three shades of red right now. She was so embarrassed and hoped that Brad would save her.

“Yeah…oh, hey baby,” Brad said as he walked up to her and kissed her on the cheek.

“Brad, what are they doing here?” Crystal whispered sternly.

“Oh, they just showed up. We’re supposed to go to the studio later. Don’t worry about them though,” Brad whispered and kissed her cheek again. His kisses trailed down her neck and lingered there.

“Brad,” Crystal gasped as Brad had found one of her spots.

“Just pretend that we aren’t here looking at you,” Chester stated loudly.

Crystal pushed Brad away and tried to regain the little composure that she had. She just wanted her clothes and then she wondered if the gang had seen them already.

“Where are my clothes?” Crystal whispered in a snappy tone.

“In the room. I brought them up so that they wouldn’t see,” Brad explained.

“Ugh, I walked down here and embarrassed myself for nothing,” Crystal said.

“It’s cool, we’re all adults here. So just go get dressed and bring your sexy self back down here,” Brad said.

Crystal went back upstairs and considered not going back down there until they were gone. Brad must have read her mind because he came upstairs moments later. She was throwing on her dress when he came into the room. He grabbed her from behind and she jumped because she wasn’t expecting him.

“Gees, you scared the hell out of me,” Crystal stated.

“Sorry about that. I just wanted to make sure that you were alright,” Brad replied while holding her tightly.

He was kissing her again and Crystal wondered if he really wanted her dressed at all. Crystal didn’t mind all of this affection, but it was too much at one time. She moved away from him before anything else happened and continued putting on her clothes.

“You’re mad at me, aren’t you?” Brad asked.

“No, why would I be?” Crystal asked, now finished with her clothes.

“Because you came downstairs in a sheet and a lot of people saw you.”

“I could see how you’d think that I was upset with you, but I’m not. I’m just not used to all this attention and affection.”

“Well, get used to it because you’re my girl now.”

Brad went up to her and kissed her on the mouth this time. Crystal liked thinking that she belonged to someone because it made her feel needed.

“Come on, they’re waiting for us,” Brad said when they were done kissing.

Brad practically pulled her out of the room and down the stairs. When they returned, Crystal noticed that more people showed up; Joe, Shelli, and Rob. Crystal was thankful that Joe wasn’t there earlier. She didn’t need him seeing her in a sheet.

“Hey Joe,” Crystal said as she joined the group.

“Crystal,” Joe grunted in disgust.

“So this is where you were. You could have called and let me know you weren’t coming back,” Shelli stated.

“That was my bad. I didn’t let Crystal have a moment to herself to call you,” Brad bragged while wrapping his arms around Crystal from behind her.

“I’ll see you guys at the studio,” Joe stated and stormed out the door.

Crystal was tired of Joe doing that. So she rushed out the door behind him because she wasn’t going to let him just walk out like that.

“Joe, what is your deal!” Crystal shouted after she caught up to him. Joe spun around to face her.

“What’s my deal? What’s yours? You’re in there acting like some whore!” Joe yelled now directly in front of Crystal.

“Oh, I’m the whore. You’re the one who sleeps with a different girl everyday of the week! I sleep with one guy and I’m a whore.”

“You don’t even know him, Crystal.”

“I can get to know him, Joe. See, he tells me how he feels. You, on the other hand, expect me to figure it out.”

“No, I don’t.”

“Yeah, you do. Like right now, you’re all pissed at me and for what? So Brad and I fucked, what’s it to you? I’m not your girlfriend and if I remember correctly, you didn’t want me to be.”

Crystal was done with worrying about Joe and his feelings. She was through with trying to understand him and she was through talking to him. She walked away from him after that. Joe knew that he should stop her, but he didn’t know what to say.

Crystal reached the door and Joe thought that she would pause to give him time to think. She didn’t though; she opened the door and closed it behind her instantly. Joe knew that there was no turning back from this. He would just have to get used to the idea of Brad and Crystal being together. Joe hated this because in his mind, Crystal belonged to him and no one else. Joe knew that he couldn’t want something that Crystal didn’t, so he decided to let her go.
